Welcome to AdvancedHRM.com, home of the world's most advanced strapless heart rate monitor. If you're like the millions of heart rate monitor user who hate chest straps, then you've come to the right place. Chest straps are uncomfortable, restrictive, and can even be unhygienic. Let's face it, most of us aren't top level athletes. We're just average people who want to improve our health and fitness level. Heart rate monitors are a great tool to achieve your personal fitness goals. The Advanced HRM was designed for walkers, joggers and runners.
The strapless heart rate monitor was developed by the engineers at Seiko-Epson, one of the top technology companies in Japan. What sets our Advanced HRM apart from all the others is that our heart rate readings are CONTINUOUS and ACCURATE. Other strapless HRMs are nothing more than pulse detectors and only show heart rate when you push a button.
The secret to reading heart rate continuously is our patented SkinDeepTM sensor technology. By shining blue light through the skin, the sensor can detect the intensity of the reflected light, which changes when some of the light is absorbed by hemoglobin. The amount of hemoglobin changes as the blood pumps through the index finger. The HRM works best when there is good blood flow to the finger; therefore, the hand should be positioned below the heart for optimum heart rate detection. That is why it's perfect for walkers, joggers and runners. If you are doing aerobics, or any other activity where your arms are above your head, then the Advanced HRM is not for you.
Enjoy the site. Check out the tutorial section to watch some videos on how the HRM works. We think you'll be impressed.
When a person walks or runs, there is a natural movement of the arms that goes along with each stride. Unlike many heart rate monitors that require a separate foot sensor, the Advanced HRM uses built-in motion sensors to detect this natural arm movement and acts as a pedometer. A pedometer provides the user with a step count for the workout session. Many workout routines and diet plans are based on step count.

According to Tudor-Locke and Bassett ('How many steps per day are enough?') here are some pedometer-based guidelines for adults:
Sedentary Lifestyle less than 5,000 steps per day
Low Active Lifestyle 5,000 to 7,499 steps per day
Somewhat Active Lifestyle 7,500 to 9,999 steps per day
Active Lifestyle more than 10,000 steps per day
Highly Active Lifestyle more than 12,500 steps per day

Perceived exertion is how hard you feel like your body is working. It is based on the physical sensations a person experiences during physical activity, including increased heart rate, increased respiration or breathing rate, increased sweating, and muscle fatigue. Although this is a subjective measure, a person's exertion rating may provide a fairly good estimate of the actual heart rate during physical activity* (Borg, 1998). The RPE scale ranges from 6 to 20, where 6 means "no exertion at all" and 20 means "maximal exertion." Choose the number from below that best describes your level of exertion.
| Rating | Description | How and What Participants Can Expect to Feel |
| 6 | » The exercise feels fairly light or even easier. » Participants don’t sweat much and their breathing only increases slightly. » It is quite easy to keep exercising. |

| 7 | Very, very light | |

| 9 | Very light | |
| 10 | » The exercise feels somewhat hard. » Participants will definitely sweat and their breathing will be above normal. » At most, it is only moderately difficult to continue exercising. |

The SkinDeep(tm) Sensor Technology was developed to provide continuous heart rate detection without the need for an uncomfortable chest strap. The SkinDeep(tm) sensor emits blue light into the skin. Some of this blue light is absorbed by the hemoglobin traveling through the index finger. The light reflected back to the sensor varies in intensity as the amount of hemoglobin changes due to the pumping of blood. The SkinDeep(tm) sensor measures the changes in light intensity and feeds it into a special algorithm that converts it into heart rate data.
Because blue light has a much shorter wavelength it cannot penetrate deep into body tissue. Therefore, the index finger is used because there is good blood flow close to the skin.
For any exercise plan, it's critical to keep track of your progress. The Advanced HRM comes with a USB interface kit that allows you to download all your exercise information to a Windows-based PC. The software displays your heart rate every second of the workout and the calories burned. It also shows your target heart rate zones so you can see if you were above, below or within the targe zones.

Most heart rate monitors require two batteries - one for the chest strap and one for the wrist unit. And sometimes it's hard to get the chest strap and wrist unit to communicate with each other after changing the batteries. With the Advanced HRM, you'll never change a battery again! Because of its strapless design, the Advanced HRM only needs to use one battery, and that battery is rechargeable! Charging the battery is simple: Place the HRM into the charging cradle (included), plug in the power supply (included), and the unit automatically starts to charge. You can even charge the HRM from your laptop with the included USB cable. An indicator light on the front of the Advanced HRM shows when the unit is being charged and when charging is complete. A battery level indicator is always visible on the LCD. Heart Rate News and Articles
